The article deals with questions of presence of the northern bald ibis in Egypt, of its ancient Egyptian symbolism and significance and of the problem of its disappearance from the country. The paper will focus also on the current aim to protect and save the species and concluded by a report from the migration of a ibis colony from Germany to Italy . At the very end, several suggestions for research desiderata will be presented that might help us both to deapen our knowledge of ancient Egyptian thought and help to save a highly endangered species.
